From crisis comes opportunity. In this online training we will do just that - find the opportunities in brief crisis interventions.


In this introduction to the Brief Crisis Therapy Model, you will:

  • be introduced to the Brief Crisis Therapy Model;

  • become familiar with the philosophy, assumptions, and theories integrated in the model;

  • be able to describe the goal of each visit in the model (even it you only need one); and

  • learn specific strategies to use in your brief crisis work.

The goal of this training is for you to feel more confident and competent in brief crisis interventions so you can relieve patient distress and improve patient outcomes. 

This training is being offered in partnership with the Canadian Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT/ACTCF) and will be accepted for 5 hours of CEUs.

Dina Bednar

Dina Bednar



Dina is a Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Marriage and Family Therapist, and an American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy Approved Supervisor.  Dina served at a children’s mental health clinic in Hamilton, Ontario for 17 years and is currently in private practice in Ancaster, Ontario.  She is the associate director of and instructor in the SFBT certificate program at Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE, University of Toronto), the co-director of the Canadian Solution-Focused Center, and co-editor of the Canadian SFBT Newsletter.  Dina trains groups internationally on SFBT, working with children and adolescents and Single Session Therapy.

Andrew Sofin



Andrew is a Registered  Marriage & Family Therapist, Registered  Psychotherapist., a thérapeute conjugal et familial  (licensed Quebec), and a Clinical Fellow of the American Association of Marriage and Family TherapyHe is the Clinical Director of Couples Retreat at Ocean Coral and has a private practice in Montreal, Canada. Andrew completed graduate studies at Antioch University (USA) specializing in couple and family therapy.   

His previous professional experience includes many years working in hospitals, residential programs, and private practice in Boston, Massachusetts. He is currently the president of the Canadian Association for Marriage & Family Therapy

Julia Wigmore


Julia is an Advanced Practice Nurse with a specialty in Perinatal Nursing from the Canadian Nurses Association and over a decade of experience working with families. She has also completed training in Family Systems, and Family Therapy and has a private practice.

Julia currently holds a position as an Associate Professor (Teaching) in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary.

Her research experience includes having managed large, multi-site longitudinal datasets as well as small qualitative studies focusing on birth, family systems, mental health, and trauma.

She is a certified mindfulness facilitator and has co-created an introductory mindfulness podcast through the University of Calgary.
